Me, Carolyn and Corduroy.
Years ago I was meeting a client at Barneys for lunch. While I was waiting, I noticed the girl sitting next to me, who was also waiting on someone, had on the same pants as I did in the exact same color.
She leaned over and said,
“I think Corduroy’s are making a comeback.” We laughed, she asked me about my shoes, Miu Miu, hers were Prada.
My client showed up and that was the end of that. As she finished her lunch and started to walk away she turned back and said, “they always look richer in Brown”, which we both were wearing.
A week later the striking blond became engaged to JFK Jr.
Carolyn Bessette Kennedy was the first and most original street star, her casual-chic was epic, and most minimalists still use her as their muse today.
In the evening she may have been rocking Yohji Yamamoto, but in the daytime, she was the queen of the flare, the block heel, and a simple cashmere v-neck sweater.
