Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Girls just wanna have fun!
I have just returned from my 10th annual girl’s trip and no truer statement has ever been made.
I consider myself truly lucky in the GF department. I have many close friends, but I travel with three spectacular, smart, funny ladies who I’ve been friends with since our kids were in kindergarten. I have on occasion called them the “most expensive friends ever” since the kids all went to the same private school. I threatened to pull the kids out so many times, but couldn’t because of these pure gold friendships.
Every year we go away for MLK weekend. The trip has expanded from three days to five and we have traveled both near and far from home - Dublin, Austin, Cartagena and Montreal to name a few. What’s great about traveling with your besties is that everyone plays to their strengths and takes on a role. In our group Sherri books restaurants, Sally takes care of our art tours, Gerri does the mapping and I am on shopping patrol. This year we chose Los Angeles and we, as usual, had the #BESTTIMEEVER!
We stayed in Santa Monica at the Viceroy hotel, perfectly situated on the beach in between Venice and Malibu. We like to take bike rides and power walks every morning, so this worked out really well. We walked 37 miles on our trip; we are serious about getting our steps in.
Venice: Epic shopping, delicious food, and of course MedMen (if you have to ask……). We spent an entire day shopping on Main Street and Rose Avenue, eating healthy bowls, and walking the canals. Some of our favorites were Cafe Gratitude for lunch and Gjelina for dinner. Main and Rose are dotted with tiny unique boutiques which is a nice break from the standard retail fare we have all come become accustomed to. Sherri scored a customized pair of vintage Levi’s at Tees + Jeans - they distressed them and fringed the bottom while we waited.
Downtown L.A.: WOW have things changed over the past few years with a burgeoning art scene, food halls, and a brand new Ace hotel. Not to be missed, The Broad, The MOCA and the LACMA, and if you have time swing by the Getty. The Ace is super cute for an after art cocktail.
Silverlake: The “Soho” of L.A., the cutest little ‘hood ever, and home to our new fave Clare V among many other shops worth visiting. Afterward, we headed over to L & E Oyster bar for some Rosé and Oysters. Oh, and did I mention that after that we had our Uber driver do the most L.A. thing ever, yup! We had him take us to the In and Out on Sunset Boulevard. Of course, it was THE BEST.
Malibu: No trip to L.A. is complete without a hike. We chose Runyon Canyon with sweeping views of the Hollywood sign and beautiful homes. (Yes, we snuck into a couple of Open Houses to see how the other coast lives.) Then it was Malibu Farm for lunch, so yummy.
The takeaway? On a girl’s trip, be flexible, go with the flow, drink cocktails, have fun, laugh out loud and most importantly cherish the moments and always, always only travel with a carry-on.
On our trips, we always bring a ton of work out clothes, dresses (we love to go all out for the night time), comfy shoes, high heels and of course our Sally Kay Jewelry. Below, check out what we wore in L.A.
