Two shopping destinations you'll want to know about

Four years ago my husband and I left NYC and moved to Charleston, South Carolina. Charleston is a beautiful small city with a bustling shopping district but unfortunately for me, the shopping wasn't exactly to my taste. I was forced to look elsewhere for my wardrobe and happily discovered two of my now favorite online shopping destinations - Modern Citizen and Need Supply.

These two stores allowed me to stay in touch with inner fashion girl self while I was living in the South. They also enabled me to show up for my monthly NYC visits with my besties dressed in the most au courant styles - a task that seemed daunting at first.

Modern Citizen started off as a virtual boutique and has recently added brick & mortar stores in NYC and SF. I lived in THE dress last summer, and now it’s on sale! I have been eyeing this surprisingly sexy sweater dress, it seems super flattering and a classic in the making.

On one of my frequent trips to NYC, I showed up in these black wide legs (shown here in ivory) and I still love them and wear them almost 5 years later. Throw them on with a black crew neck and you will feel uber chic.

This classic black shirt with a very flattering neckline is my go-to shirt. I wear it so often I’m actually not sure what I wore before I got it.

All things being equal, Need Supply is not. Need Supply started with a small store in Richmond, VA and has grown into a global online brand. When we were moving back to NYC from Charleston, the car was all packed and ready to go and I insisted we stop and spend a night in Richmond so we could visit this Mecca of cult brands. Of coure, my husband who is also a fashionista in his own right had no problem acquiescing (they have a great men’s section).

I can envision wearing this skirt season after season with a black deep v-neck. That tiering will flatter everyone (Pam, I promise you!).

That shirt will look great with Citizens of Humanity faded high waisted crop jeans and these super cool white, yes white, slingbacks from Mansur Gavriel.

This pale pink coral slouchy sweater will look great with the Citizen cropped jeans and white shoes. Add in the delicate gold bar posts for a complete girl about town look.

And if coral isn't your color, this gray asymmetrical sweater is a real crowd pleaser.

Having just returned from L.A. I can assure you that the “fanny pack” is going nowhere and slung over the body is the Kool way to go.

Black denim is my thing and I am always searching for the perfect pair. These are cropped and flared.

We know it can be intimidating and even scary to order a brand you know nothing about from a store you have never heard of. Trust us, these two new boutiques have been tried and tested and have earned The Koolest Women seal of approval.
