We are headed “out east” (aka The Hamptons) for a weekend with my wonderful rock star friend Danielle and her family – husband, two boys. They’re super chill and relaxed, so I’m thinking it will probably all be very casual. But they are also a gorgeous couple (inside and out), charming and fabulous – so I need to be prepared for the last minute “oh, let’s stop by so and so’s house for drinks” or “let’s go for cocktails at this great place in town”. Okay – “town” is East Hampton – casual but in a Gucci belt kind of way. Red alert – this can be a little tough to navigate – how to fit in, but not look like you’re trying too hard.
It could be a bit of a long drive out there so for my comfy yet “pop out of the car looking chic” outfit – cute white sleeveless sweater, cropped black joggers, pants, and this oh-so-soft hoodie. All of this from Lou & Grey – walked into this store on 5th Avenue and wanted everything in the store. I’ll mix/match these items all weekend.
I'd buy these Teva sandals every summer – they’re inexpensive but very comfortable and cute, especially this version with red and light blue. I’ll wear these all weekend. I’ve also been seeing a lot of these waterproof Birkenstocks in a lot of very fun colors.
We’ll probably hang out, coffee, bagels, newspaper, then we’re off to the town beach – quintessential Long Island with white dunes and a powerful surf. It’s crowded enough to be interesting but empty enough to feel like a get-away. Maybe a little Yacht Rock playing nearby to simultaneously bum you out and then have you singing without realizing it. This gauzy cover-all fits right in with the scene. I’ll wear the J. Crew ballet one piece I bought at the start of the summer – but check out all of their bathing suits that are on crazy sale.
It’ll be a no or low make-up weekend, with maybe just some Glossier Boy Brow gel and a little highlighter. This yummy sea mist spray (think aloe vera, coconut, and vanilla) adds beachy texture to hair and helps cleanse skin too.
So it’s back to the house – hot tub, shower and head into town for cocktails. I’ve had my eye on this midi print dress from Mango all summer and now it’s on sale. These blush sandals would be a sweet touch. We’ll get there in time for sunset, so these pink aviators will finish off the cool, casual look.
Early wake-up for a long hike on the beach and hopefully some good one-on-one time with my lovely friend, away from husbands and kids. I love the chevron pattern on these Outdoor Voice leggings and would match them with these New Balance 997s– do you see the crazy camo pattern on the tongue? I’d finish it up with my
Shower and a quick hop to the Farmer’s Market in an ocean dipped dress, my Mango net bag, and these well-priced Tretorn denim paint-splattered sneakers. On the way there, we’ll put the roof down and crank up the song of the summer – Cardi B’s “I like it” – (this link is the supposedly “clean” version but can’t vouch for the Spanish). Very cute!
Now it’s basically – Lather, Rinse, Repeat. With this wardrobe and a washer/drier, I could stay the week, if invited…! Hopefully, I was prescient enough to bring a beautiful hostess gift. In this case, my husband pre-empted me and got a case of wine for them. I know he’ll insist on carrying it in – it’s sort of a Big Salad situation (Seinfeld).
Hope you have a lot of great weekends planned this summer! Tell us what you’re wearing and what you’re looking for.
