SUMMER STYLE: 4 ALTERNATIVES TO SHORTS

SUMMER STYLE: 4 ALTERNATIVES TO SHORTS

It might be time for me to trade out those denim cut-offs for something that makes me feel better – inside and out.

Right now, I’m wearing cute army green shorts but I’m just puttering around the house and catching up on my inbox. I’m not sure I’d feel good if I wear them as I head out to run errands or meet up with friends.

Although I try to stay fit, when I catch a glimpse of the back of my legs in a store window or see big red marks after sitting on outdoor furniture, that just makes me feel really self-conscious and sorta bad. Even though I know I shouldn’t – I know I should feel really proud of my body, I’m lucky it’s so strong and healthy. But I think maybe I’ll feel better trading in my shorts for a dress or a wide-legged cropped pant this summer. And with tons of summer sales, it’s a really great time to shop.

This J. Crew chambray shirtdress is calling my name – it seems very comfortable and easy

You could pair it with these Tory Burch flowered Bianca Slides or New Balance 791’s and look equally awesome and comfortable.

I’d add a pair of bright resin earrings like these from Bauble Bar – priced just right for a summer fling.

To finish off this outfit I am a huge fan of Steven Alan’s purses and this Cameron leather crossbody is on sale and comes in lots of colors (I love the navy).

For running around, I like this chambray cropped wide leg pants as an alternative to the perfect J. Crew pants we’ve been wearing all spring.

I’m going to pair with the Bay Sandals – I like the metallic, but they come in a million colors (and are a copy of a pair that is 10 times the price).

Just add one of the Alternative 3-pack t-shirts, give it the half-tuck and that would be super cute. Or, for a nice loose look, try this Banana Republic twist-front top.

These Eddie Borgo chain drop earrings would add a nice edge.

Mango has some great striped dresses – this one comes in a few colors in a cotton/linen blend, v-neck and short rolled-up sleeves and a slightly more buttoned up version in all cotton.

I’d love the stripes with these colorful Tory Burch Sienna flat slides that I’ve been eyeing all spring.

If you’re looking for the dress/sneaker look – check out these super chunky Nike Air Max – colorful, cool and fun.

And this Swarovski greeting ring pendant would look nice with the v-neck.

Last, but not least, in my travels through Soho, I saw this really beautiful floral Rebecca Minkoff dress in the store window and had to try it on… and buy it.  It is super flattering, with a slightly cinched waist, and you can keep the neckline closed or open – do you love the strings with tassels? And in our quest for an easy, effortless style, I have to say this ranks very very high.

So, I’ll keep wearing my shorts for running, walking, gardening –  but I love these outfits and think how much more space in my brain I will have when I’m not worried about how my thighs look….
