Fresh Kicks for the New Year
We wrote about sneakers in the fall and that’s when I started to get serious about integrating them into my overall look. I’ve always admired that cool, creative grown-up woman who could rock the good blazer and sneakers and pretty much go anywhere and fit in perfectly.
First, our favorites-are-you-tired-of-hearing-about-them-already Vejas. These Brazilian made shoes have a great eco vibe, help the community, and are made with sustainable materials. My favorites, pink suede, seem to be sold out everywhere, but I like these tennis court inspired white mesh with blue stripes.
Nike, for me is always in, never out. I love these classic Air Force 1s in sage as well as these with a metallic swoosh. I stalked a woman at a skate shop sample sale several years ago for a version of these, black leather with a sole the color of the Brazilian flag. She was carrying them around but seemed to be wavering about buying them and when I saw her place them aside at check-out, I swooped in and have worn them obsessively since then.
Everyone seems to be loving their All Birds - a unique combination of comfort, sophisticated styling and and an eco sensibility, made with all natural materials. I like these in natural grey with a light grey sole. If All Birds are new to you, they offer a 30-day return policy that encourages you to “wear them out in the wild” and see if you like them.
Sometimes it does just get too rainy and cold to wear your favorite sneakers. I went to yoga class this week and the weather was so awful, the teacher had to make an announcement for everyone to be sure to double check their Blundstones before they left - since there were so many sitting in the rack outside class. This week’s Brooklyn shoe!
