IS GREAT STYLE THE SECRET TO GETTING FIT?
I just read about the $320 WONE leggings ($320!!!) that are so exclusive that you have to get on a special list and be approved by the company’s founder. Seriously? How great could they be? Hmm, maybe really really great? (And now I want them.)
It got me thinking about the gorgeous and completely cool Padma Lakshmi - no one balances a holiday feast and a fierce fitness routine better than Padma. So I went in search of amazing work out gear - after all, nothing is more motivating than great style.
Veronica Beard has an incredible collaboration with Bandier, which includes these Ronda leggings. Her Scuba jacket with the Billie Hoodie camo dickey is the perfect item if you’re running around all day, popping in/out of a car, whatever. Fits great, feels great. Can also use just as a black blazer that would upgrade any/every outfit.
My perfect yoga class starts with this slice tank from Alalala with a loose but not baggy fit, or this Koral Villa Tank (super cool with mesh underneath). These Alalala Nitro leggings have the most unique checkerboard texture and fit perfectly. (Order a size down). Also crazy for the All Access Stardust with racing stripes down the side; the 8-way stretch fabric and design make you look both curvy and lean at the same time. WITH (Wear it to Heart) has the cutest freckle leggings.
Sports Bras - Nothing frustrates me more than trying to squeeze something sweaty over my head to get it off, so I prefer when they fasten either front or back. I loved this article about how Lululemon is researching how women’s breasts move to develop a better sports bra and am already wearing their new “Like Nothing” bra.
Yoga Mat - I recently used this LOLE yoga mat and fell in love, so sticky, thick and squishy but weights next to nothing. If you’re not bringing your own mat, definitely tuck a Jo-Sha towelette in your bag to stay clean and flu-free.
Headphones - I’ve tried them all and hands down, for comfort and sound, try the Bose Soundsport wireless headphones.
Classes - Many retailers offer group fitness classes for free like Athleta (check your closest store for schedule) and Sweaty Betty. Can you believe Peloton classes are free during the day at the NYC studio? (Thanks Lee Anne for sharing that with me!). And both Alo and Bandier have beautiful studios with a range of great classes and teachers.
If you can’t make it out the door, try these free yoga classes at FightMaster Yoga on YouTube - hundreds available at all levels. My super fit BFF Mindy loves these 10-minute strength workout plans from Spartan (best known for their obstacle race). Or check out this video from Women’s Health Magazine, with a smart quick workout.
