What’s in my sister’s suitcase?

What’s in my sister’s suitcase?

I am lucky enough to have two uber-stylish sisters, all three of us with different looks and tastes. This week I thought it would be fun to showcase my gorgeous sister Elyse - she lives outside of NYC, she’s a super Soul Cycle devotee and an avid games player - especially bridge and golf.

Elyse is prepping for a one-week trip to Tuscany with her husband, two beautiful daughters, their awesome husbands, and it’ll be the first time traveling with her grandson Noah. BTW, she’s so NOT what you think of when you say “grandmother”…she’s definitely Grandma 2.0.

“Our family’s rule is to travel with carry-on only, no matter how long the trip is. But this time we have a toddler with us. Even though his clothes are tiny, his stuff takes up a lot of space.

This trip presents an interesting packing challenge. We will be trekking around small Italian towns, going wine tasting, visiting museums and galleries, maybe even truffle hunting. Since we’re staying in a villa with a lot of lounging space, we’ll also be spending time hanging at home together, running after the baby and sitting by the fireplace. Add an unpredictable weather forecast to the mix, with some days predicted to be sunny and in the 60s and others cold and rainy.

I decided to bring my two favorite pairs of jeans, the Moussy Vintage Nelson Tapered and The Great - The Fellow which has some stretch in them, so they’ll be good after a few Italian meals.

I’m also bringing my favorite cropped black neoprene pants by GBTSO, which are nice enough for dinner and comfortable enough to wear on the plane. They can also be washed, which is helpful on a long trip. They were a good buy from last year and no longer available, but these Skyler’s from Anatomie are very similar.

I am bringing a bunch of black tops, like this Alternative Apparel jersey v-neck, a heavier black sweater from Modern Citizen, and a washable silk Equipment button-down. All-black keeps my look uniform, and means it’s less likely anyone will notice when I repeat looks.

I am breaking out of black with a bright yellow cashmere sweater by Everlane, which will be perfect for a day when I want to look more pulled-together.

I always wear a cashmere scarf like this one from Barney’s on the plane and I’ll be able to use it all week long. I’m only bringing one scarf - maybe I’ll buy another one while I’m there.

My leather jacket will be perfect for pulling my nighttime looks together. I also threw in a down golf vest that’s similar to this Patagonia.

I’m bringing two pairs of sneakers, so I can switch off. My Adidas Superstars are the most comfortable for walking around, plus a new black pair from Koio that look good with everything.

I’m also bringing one pair of short black Rag & Bone Chelsea boots that have a very comfortable heel. I’ve had them forever so I know I can wear them each night, even if we end up walking around.

I’ll throw in a soft matching Lou & Grey sweatshirt and sweatpants to hang around in at the house. Since I’ll be running around after my grandson and playing on the floor, I want to stay comfortable.

I’m bringing this MZ Wallace quilted belt bag, which I will wear as a cross-body bag, the way my sister Pam showed me. Mara’s been using this camo slim belt pack that would also work.

Everything fits into our Tumi wheeled carry-on bags. I also have the matching mini-duffel that slides onto the handle, so I don’t have to lug it around the airport.

Now that the planning—and packing—is done, I can focus on the fun stuff…a special week with my growing family!”

Ciao, Elyse
