MUST-HAVE FALL ACCESSORIES
Some say Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but I beg to differ. Autumn in New York is so spectacular they even made a movie about it. The city comes alive after months of being pummeled with searing heat and humidity. Fashion is the center point of all the excitement. And, in the words of our Koolest Women ever Carrie Bradshaw, “Every year the women of New York leave the past behind and look forward to the future. This is known as Fashion Week.”
I look at this time as a chance to refresh, reinvigorate and sometimes reinvent myself. Possibly a new haircut, for sure new denim, always a trendy coat, new boots and sometimes if I am feeling extra flush, a new bag. Oh and yes there have been times where I have even purchased a new watchband. (It’s sort of a game changer, try it!). And I choose my jewelry for the season, sounds crazy, but this fits my minimalist approach to uniform dressing.
Because I stick to jeans and cashmere all season long, accessories play a huge role in my outfit scheme.
The Purse: Pam is tired of me saying this, but I am bringing back the Hobo bag! It all starts with the iconic Coach bag. Cuyana has an updated version, and you can purchase the extra long strap to turn it into a cross body. For a splurge, I love the Chloe saddle bag, it has become a true classic and there is something very special about that baby blue when you pair it with faded denim.
The Jewelry: This season the gold accessory is stronger than ever and I'm thinking of purchasing some gold bracelets. I was out with a friend last week and she was wearing the Gucci double G and of course I tried it on 10 times. Equally eye-catching is the Miansai Screw Cuff. I just ordered this A.P.C. chain link which totally brings me back to 8th grade and I can't wait to start rocking it.
The Shoe: I own many, many sling backs because I think it’s the sexiest shoe a woman can wear. I am always on the hunt for the perfect black suede kitten heel and last year Everlane did not disappoint. I wore them so much they got totally trashed and thank God they brought them back again. So run don't walk, the Everlane Editor Heel is the perfect shoe.
The Mules: Since I am 90’s girl I’m not ready yet to give up my mules/slides for the season. Jenni Kayne has perfect ones for heading into the winter - these are the pair that “made them famous”. If you are thinking you might want to add a little glitter to your life, her velvet mule would be amazing. And check out the Loeffler Randall super comfy glam mules that Pam and one of our fashion besties just bought.
The Boot: If I can name the single most important item in my fall wardrobe it will always be the Chelsea boot. Many years ago (many, many!) I was at a dinner party with the fashion photographer Francesca Sorrenti; she said her son was swinging by with his new muse/girlfriend. When they entered the party, the room turned silent, all eyes on this waif of a girl who looked she just spent the night with a big bag of smack but she was a stunner. We were all keenly aware that this girl was going places. On top of everything, I couldn't help noticing her perfect, perfect Chelsea boots. I had to know where she got them. I sauntered right up to her, cool as a cucumber and inquired about those boots. Kate Moss replied, Doc Martens baby.
The bonus: I am feeling in a Kate Moss-y mood so I might purchase this black Givenchy clutch. It has a vintage, cool girl vibe that I think she would appreciate.
Whether fall is “back to school” for you, or the start of the new year, be sure to enjoy this incredible time - try something new, take a long walk in the leaves, carve a pumpkin and enjoy!
